Zane starts preschool next week and everyone has been asking me, "what will you do with 3 hours all to yourself?"
I'll tell you what...I'll be creating!
Zane decided to take a 3 hour nap today. This hasn't happen in months...so I knew when he woke up he'd either be wearing a new size of clothes or else sick. But it gave me a glimpse of what to expect for next week. In 3 hours I made this quilt top for Logan. I've been meaning to make a new blanket for him and with my resent desire to not buy anything, I set out for my fabric stash and pulled out all the pieces that I knew Logan would love. Space aliens, rocket ships, Toy Story Buzz Lightyear and Woody fabric, and butterflies. Yes, I have a sweet boy who loves butterflies! Also some big blue pieces since blue is his favorite color.
I will be honest I've been a little intimidated with the idea of quilting. The patterns, the rules. Well I threw all those stifling things out the window and just went to work letting the pieces decide where to go. Putting a puzzle together really. It was a lot of fun, to just accept that I have no idea what the end result will look like. This isn't for a contest or state fair after all, it's for a child to love and snuggle. Give it a try...I'd call it liberating, honestly!

Gretchen, that quilt top is so unbelievably impressive. You are right about ditching the rules. I should do this too with my someday quilt project.

I'm with you on feeling intimidated by quilting. I really want to try it but can't get past that part. Thanks for the inspiration - it's beautiful!
