Yes, certified fair trade products do good things for some people. But if you're genuinely interested in global health, you have to consider the carbon footprint. Is it really more responsible overall to buy fair trade products, when importing them from their point of origin probably consumes exponentially more fossil fuel than buying something produced closer to home, albeit not a fair trade product? I am very excited about this! We don't have a dishwasher and go through tons of dish soap, which I hike all the way over to Trader Joe's to buy.
